TRAIL RIDE FAQs

Where will the October Trail Ride take place this year?
Hillsdale State Park, Saddle Ridge Equestrian Camp.

Who can attend PTSC Trail Rides?
Trail rides are for PTSC members and guests. If you are a member and want to bring a guest, you may do so for $10 per guest. Guests may participate in the trail ride and dinner but will not be eligible for sponsor prizes. Membership forms will be available at the ride if a guest would like to join the saddle club at that time. Remember, reservations are required for every person (member or guest) attending this event.

What time should I arrive?
Arrive whenever you like on Saturday but note that we will have catered food around 5 pm in the shelter. After that we'll have drawings for fabulous items donated by our sponsors (see the list at the right).

How much will the trail ride cost?
You will be responsible for your vehicle permits at Hillsdale (usually about $8 per vehicle) and any campsite fees or overnight fees.  PTSC is paying for the BBQ dinner. We will bring water, ice tea, sodas and coffee.

What will we do at the ride?
This is a pleasure trail ride and feast! Come to ride, visit, and eat! There will be a little friendly trail competition so get ready!  There are over twenty-five miles of trails at Hillsdale. You can explore the trails in small groups or you can saddle up and meet at the shelter with your horse, ready to hit the trails and go out together as a larger group at noon. Trail maps will be available so, hopefully, no one will get lost. If you go out in a small group please swap cell phone numbers with us at the shelter in case of an emergency!  Packing a poncho would be a good idea in case of inclement weather. Also, when you get to the park, check in at the shelter to let us know that you are there. At approximately 5 pm we will enjoy our BBQ dinner and after that distribute our sponsor gifts.

How do I get to Hillsdale and Saddle Ridge?
From Freeman, Harrisonville area... go through Louisburg take K-68 West...  You'll go about 16 miles to the Paola roundabout. Go to the first road off the roundabout. Should be Old Kansas City Road going north. Stay on that road until you get to a four way stop at the town of Hillsdale. Turn left. You'll be on 255th Street. Go to Harmony road, turn right. Go up the hill 3/10ths of a mile. Turn left at the water plant and follow that road into the horse camp, Saddle Ridge.

From Belton, Peculiar, Raymore areas... take 223rd Street West (pick up 223rd at Holmes aka State Route D) all the way to Spring Hill, KS. Cross over 169 Highway and turn left or south on Old Kansas City Road. Take this road to Hillsdale's four way stop. At the four way stop, turn right (255th Street) and go to Harmony Road. Turn Right onto Harmony, go up the hill 3/10ths of a mile. Turn left at the water plant and follow that road into the horse camp, Saddle Ridge.

Are we camping overnight?
That's entirely up to you. Saddle Ridge has about 18 campsites. Some campsites have pens for your horses but they don't have electric hookups. If you require electricity, bring your own horse pen or corral panels. Water is available at all campsites. Saddle Ridge has bathrooms (primitive but not too bad). Campsites need to be reserved and they cost from $8 to $8.50 per night. Please clean your horse pens before leaving.

I have a question that has not been answered here...
Please email Leanna and we will do our best to help you out!

Where do I RSVP?
Please email Leanna and you will be counted on the list for the BBQ!

What about the sponsor donations?
In 2007, some of the donated items were distributed through drawings and a poker hand. Please visit the sponsor websites and support these companies and individuals. We are truly on the receiving end of their generosity!  On our past Trail Rides we had a trail challenge where you had to retrieve a special token or a poker card on the trail to be eligible for certain prizes. For this reason, we recommend coming early so you will have time to enjoy the trails and find the tokens.
